Shaping the Program for PTW 2024
Performing the World conveners, Dan Friedman and Lois Holzman have been meeting with innovative on-the-ground organizers introduced to them by past PTW presenters and the International Organizing Committee — they are from across the globe from Nigeria to Venezuela, Japan to South Africa, Western Kentucky to West Bengal
The shape and content of the program is beginning to emerge and many grassroots power creators, new to PTW, will be presenting, including:
- A coalition of 52 grassroots social justice centers throughout Kenya
- A bloodied-but-unbowed, decades-old political theatre from the West Bank of Palestine
- Young people in South Africa creating poetry performances about their histories and communities
- A multi-racial coalition in the U.S. of rural and urban communities from Milwaukee to Baltimore, from Alabama to Kentucky, working, through culture, to create power at the grassroots
In addition to featuring the highest percentage of new presenters in many years, PTW 2024 is also shaping up to be the most well attended Performing the World ever.
We will have much more to share next month as things unfold.
From the International Organizing Committee
Connect your local community with the PTW global community and let’s create the power together! The International Organizing Committee is thrilled to invite you to join us in hosting a PTW watch party and have your community be a part of this GLOBAL HAPPENING.
What is a PTW watch party and how do I organize one?
It’s simple… and it’s fun! Gather your community — could be friends, colleagues, family… and ask them to register for PTW (we’ve made sure that our fees work for everyone, no one will be excluded), invite them to your home, school, community center (whatever you set up and wherever there’s WiFi) and tune in to the livestream together. Share your thoughts, ideas, and insights as you watch, and add them to the global conversation via social media. Whether it’s 3 people or 300, it’s a Watch Party!
Let us know you’re organizing a watch party. We’d be glad to help, and we’d like to report on it and build the excitement. Write to mmeyer@eastsideinstitute.org.
