Despite years of growing authoritarianism, despite a governing party that has for over a decade been cultivating a political and cultural environment conducive to violent attacks on Muslims, lower caste people, and women, despite economic policies favoring the rich and further disempowering the poor, ordinary people throughout India are finding ways to work together to help each other and create power at the grassroots.

Hosted by Ishita Sanyal, founder and leader of Turning Point, and recipient, 2024 Shane J. Lopez Award for Professional Contributions in Positive Psychology, American Psychological Association.
Sanyal will introduce us to:
Alokananda Roy, internationally celebrated Indian classical dancer, choreographer, dance educator, therapist, and a social reformer.
Juin Dutt, founder and president, the Srotoshwini Trust, offering free educational programs for children living on the streets and skills training for women.
Subhadip Sen, founder and director, Peace Welfare Organization, offering a free night school for children who work in the coal mines.
Chaitali Gami founder and leads Parivaar Bengal, educating over 1,200 orphans, street children and founder, South Kolkata Parasmoni, advocates for children and adults with Autism, Down Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy.
Reshmi Chatterjee, founder of Halo Heritage, preserving and promoting art, culture & craftsmanship of traditional Bengali artisans.

Shakti Shalini (watch their video above) was founded in Delhi in 1987, after Ms. Satyarani Chadha and Ms. Shahjahan Apa’s young daughters were brutally murdered, burned alive by their in-laws due to insufficient dowry. The shared tragedy bound the two mothers to each other and launched them into a fierce battle against gender violence. Shakti Shalini was the first non-governmental shelter for abused women India had ever seen. Over the last four decades it has evolved into a dynamic center for the support and development of oppressed and marginalized women and a dynamic grassroots organization working on-the-ground in poor communities to prevent everyday violence and promote gender equality, individual choice and dignity.

I think it is a very innovative & a very different concept — in our language “hatke “ concept. It will bring a new life to watching the online presentations. We could literally be in the conference with our near & dear ones, discuss the topics presented by the speakers & really dive inside the sea of knowledge & discover some real jewel performances that are happening around the world.
